Spike VGAs

It's roughly 3:15 am. I finally finished watching the Spike VGAs. Overall, I was pleased with the results, but there was some that I thought were off the mark. So here's the breakdown, I'm not commenting on every award so I've put all the ones with comments first with a summary of the other wins following that.

Best Voice - Jack Black

I like Jack Black as much as the next guy but this award should have gone to Mark Hamill for his work as the Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Best Action Adventure Game - Assassin's Creed II

This was a well deserved win, Assassin's Creed took everything from the first game that worked, ripped out what didn't, changed up the mission structure, put together a great story, and really just delivered a fantastic experience with Assassin's Creed II.

Studio of the Year - Rocksteady Studio

Naughty Dog would have been another good choice for this but I do feel that this was a well deserved win for Rocksteady. Batman: Arkham Asylum surprised alot of people. We knew it was being developed, but we were all a bit on the skeptical side given that Rocksteady hadn't really proven themselves coupled with the fact that no one had really pulled off a stellar Batman game yet. Rocksteady delivered.

Best Performance by a Human Male - Hugh Jackman as Wolverine

I like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, so it's not too far of a stretch to have him win on this one given that he plays Wolverine in the movies.

Best Independent Game - Flower

I recently pulled this game down on PSN (on sale!) and I can honestly say, that it is very deserving. It's a unique experience, has the best use of the Sixaxis I've ever seen, and is overall a great experience. Even when you don't actually play and let the game just sit there it and start going through it's idle mode it's a great experience.

Best Wii Game - New Super Mario Bros Wii

Anyone really surprised at this one?

Most Anticipated Game - God of War III

Okay this is a really stupid category and should, quite frankly, be removed from the show. They are giving an award to a game that doesn't yet exist because fanboys vote for it. That's just lame.

Best Xbox 360 Game - Left 4 Dead 2

Should've been Batman. Course I just don't see the appeal of Left 4 Dead

Best Original Score - Halo 3: ODST

I don't see how Assassin's Creed II didn't win this. Jesper Kyd's work is amazing on Assassin's Creed II.

Best Game Based on a Movie/TV Show - South Park Let Go Tower Defense Play!

Really?

I love tower defense games as much as the next guy, but c'mon, I mean really?

Game of the Year - Uncharted 2
Best PS3 Game - Uncharted 2
Best Graphics - Uncharted 2

My personal choice would have been Assassin's Creed II for Game of the Year, but following closely behind would be Uncharted 2. As it picked up the Best PS3 and Best Graphics wins as well, it's clearly a well deserved win for Uncharted 2 as GOTY.

Here's the other winners:

Best Team Sports Game - NHL 10
Best Cast - X-Men Orgins: Wolverine Uncaged Edition
Best Individual Sports Game - UFC Undisputed 2009
Best RPG - Dragon Age: Origins
Best PC Game - Dragon Age: Orgins
Best Performance by a Human Female - Megan Fox as Mikaela Banes
Best Downloadable Game - Shadow Complex
Best DLC - Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony
Best Shooter - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Best Multi-player Game - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Best Fighting Game - Street Fighter IV
Best Handheld Game - Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Best Driving Game - Forza Motorsport 3
Best Soundtrack - DJ Hero
Best Music Game - The Beatles: Rock Band

In addition to the awards, there were some nice previews that we got to see. Here's a few of my favorites:

More Batman: Arkham Asylum = Good

Um it's TRON, that's just always a good thing.

Oh yeah, really liked the first game, would love a sequel.
