These guys are nuts.
I can't even fathom working that fast when playing StarCraft or WarCraft

Why 3D may really be a gaming revolution
Much has been said of late about the 3D movement. Nintendo recently introduced the 3DS, the new handheld that can produce 3D visuals without the aid of 3D glasses and Sony has been pushing 3D games and movies on the PS3, assuming you want to pony up the cash for the hardware, around $3,000+.
Upon first hearing of this, I was firmly in the, 'Say no to 3D' camp. However, the more I think about it the more I think that this could really be the next gaming revolution.

Classics HD?
After reading that Sony may be considering more HD remakes of classic PS2 games, I can't help but think of the possibilities. There are some obvious choices for the HD treatment like the Metal Gear Solid series, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus, or Devil May Cry. So what I'd like to do is share a couple of my other favorite PS2 series.
The Mark of Kri/Rise of Kisai - Both of these games had an interesting art style and some innovative controls. I remember you could use the right analog to paint targets around you with the face buttons which you would then press to attack each enemy. I also liked that the heroes and mythology weren't typical, rather, they seemed inspired from Polynesian or Maori cultures.
The Getaway/The Getaway: Black Monday - While I've not ever been a fan of the GTA games, The Getaway series caught my eye not only because they looked great but also because the games had an outstanding presentation. The cut scenes and voice acting easily outshines a majority of games in the gangstar genre. These games really captured the feel of old school, gritty British crime thrillers.
I think either of these collections deserve a second chance with revamped graphics and modernized control schemes. Each innovated in their own time and I imagine they could work well with Move support as they both have melee and shooting mechanics in their gameplay. Also I think these games represent the spirit of the PS2 and how Sony sometimes took chances with new franchises. Hopefully they are among the titles being considered in a new collection of Classics HD.

Quote of the week
I was reading an interview with Lazlow Jones, a producer at Rockstar Studios (and yes, he's the voice of DJ Lazlow in GTA) and he has an interesting point of view mature video games and the kids who play them.

Publishers and developers are idiots
I'm getting so sick of the pubs and devs spouting off about the evil used game market. Another nugget spouted off again recently. Says Karl Stewart, Crystal Dynamics' Global Brand Director:
"Having the used market is not beneficial to any of us."

Phoenix Wright and the Japanese legal system
I really enjoy Phoenix Wright. I'm currently playing through the second game (I'm on the 4th case now), and while the game presents itself to Western audiences as though it's taking place on Western soil, it's very clear the game is Japanese through and through.

Abstergo is looking for recruits...
I got an interesting email today from none other than Dr. Warren Vidic of Abstergo Industries. It appears that they are looking for new recruits to bring about their New World Order. A visit to the website shows several weapons, an axe, a claw (fashioned a prosthetic arm), a dagger, a fan (with a nasty cutting edge), a syringe, and a dagger.

The Eminence Symphony Orchestra
Wow, I wish these guys were putting on a concert near me. I found these guys this weekend as I was poking around YouTube to show my son the original gameplay of the 1990s Prince of Persia.

DuncanR2N's Weekend Thoughts Vol. XI: I don't want 3D
3D is upon us, and apparently consumers are eating it up. Or at least, we are eating it up because we're told to. I'm not all that impressed with 3D, and yes I saw Avatar in 3D and I still think it's not as revolutionary as the media purveyors would have you think.

The most unusual story out of PAX
So the Penny Arcade Expo was this last weekend and while it was filled with what one would normally expect at a video-game conference one very unusual story has popped up.

Netflix on Wii
When Netflix announced it was coming to Wii, I figured I'd request the disc just to see what the quality was like and to give the kiddos a way to stream all the episodes of Spongebob they wanted.

Game Day Sales at GameStop
It's that time of year again. GameStop is having it's annual Game Days Sale. I'm usually able to find one or two titles during this sale that are going for a decent price, and if you want to take your chances, usually the closer you get to the end of the sale, the deeper the discount. So if you see a game you want and there's a whole lot of them, you might want to hold off on buying it. Or you could just go back later with your receipt once it's been discounted and get some of your money back.
Here's the list of titles available:

New Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Trailer...I like it
It appears that Ubisoft has been putting their movie studio to use following on the heels of the excellent Assassin's Creed: Lineage movies. They've put out a live action teaser for the lastest Ghost Recon game, and it's got me pretty psyched. Take a look after the jump...

God of War III Ultimate Edition for $80! or I'm $20 richer now.
A week ago I paid $100 for my God of War Ultimate Edition, today I got $20 back. GameStop has dropped the price of the Ultimate Edition to $80 (well, $79.99), so I took my receipt in and got my $20 back due to their price protection policy.
For all of you who paid $100 at GameStop, I suggest you go get your $20 back.

250GB drive now available for your 360 storage pleasure
Major Nelson has informed us that you can now buy a 250GB drive for your Xbox 360 storage needs. While that is great for those of use with smaller drives it's still a bit overpriced for a hard drive.

PlayStation.Blog Share
For those of us that have a PlayStation 3, Sony has given us a new place to provide feedback on what PlayStation owners really want. It's been up for a couple of days now so I thought I'd see what type of suggestions they are getting.

Just when you think a corner has been turned...
Apparently Sony must have felt they'd been getting too much good press. Sales had been up, they had the game of the year, and God of War III is set to descend upon us.
So imagine my surprise last night when my rock, my ever reliable PS3, decided to party like it was 1999, December 31, 1999 to be exact. I thought it was odd that my system clock said that so I manually adjusted it and threw in Killzone 2 only to get an odd trophy error followed by a series of PSN 8001050F errors. So I jump onto the net and see Joystiq's post about the bug. After that I turned off my PS3, afraid to check and see if any of my trophies had been wiped.
I'm so tired of the foul ups this generation. Does anyone even have a QA department anymore?
At least my latest 360 is still working.

I just got really interested in the Medal of Honor reboot...
There was a time where Medal of Honor reigned king of the 'war' shooters. Then some dudes split off of EA, formed Infinity Ward, and blew Medal of Honor out of the water with a little game call Call of Duty. Medal of Honor has since been relegated to a good but secondary 'war' franchise and hasn't ever been able to recapture the glory days.

Pach-Attack! comes to GameTrailers
Well this is kind of interesting. Apparently the well-known video games pundit Michael Pachter is no longer satisfied with his usual method of delivering his prognostications. Yesterday, the premier episode of Pach-Attack! went live on GameTrailers.

There's a squid in my Assassin's Creed II
Deep down in the catacombs of the Santa Maria Della Visitazione Assassin's Tomb lives a lovely creature of the deep. Link your way to the video, which gets interesting around the 0:40 mark.
PSN sales a plenty
PSN has a pretty decent sale going on until the 27th of this month. Called the 10 for '10 game sale, there's a whole bunch of games that are half off. You can check out the full list after the jump.

Assassin's Creed gets multiplayer
Apparently we are due for another Assassin's Creed game this year. According to some statements from the Ubisoft meetings, they have another game slated this year that will include, get this, multiplayer. Now I'm looking a that thinking, "What are those idiots thinking?"

DuncanR2N's 2009 Year End Game Awards
Yes, it's time to hand out accolades to the best of the games this year. However, I do things a bit differently than most sites out there. Rather than hand out the awards for the games released this year, I hand them out to games I played this year. So, here goes.

Games of the year
When I look back at 2009, I see a great year in gaming. Below I’ll go into a little detail on my favorites. My rules are simple. I’m picking platform exclusives, cross platform titles, and an overall game of the year. I didn’t put any meaningful time into Wii or DS so I don’t have any entries for them.
Holiday bounty
Now that the holiday season is over, I can begin to plan my gaming in 2010 and I see no better place to start than with the titles I received for Christmas this year.
